This spring, Stephen Friedman Gallery will showcase a selection of sculptures by Stephan Balkenhol. This German artist is known for his hand carved human figures which represent poses of the everyday man. Made from wood, these minimalist sculptures are key to understanding the role of the figure within contemporary art. Throughout his twenty-year career Balkenhol has exhibited in various museums internationally, including a solo show at Moscow Museum of Modern Art in 2016 and at Landes Museum in Linz, Austria in 2015-2014.
The exhibition will be on show until 16 April at the Stephen Friedman Gallery, 25-28 Old Burlington Street London W1S 3AN

One of the most respected Russian theatres “Sovremennik” returns to London’s West End this May with its’ most acclaimed dramas. Londoners will have a unique opportunity to enjoy “Three Comrades”, “Two For The Seesaw” and “Three Sisters”, directed by one of Russia’s greatest theatre practitioners Galina Volchek, and played by talented Russian actors including Chulpan Khamatova. All three shows will be performed in Russian with English subtitles.
It will take place from 3 to 13 May at Piccadilly Theatre 16 Denman St, London W1D 7DY

Digital Territories: Photography in the Online Environment

This talk is a must for photography lovers. David Alan Harvey, (Magnum photographer and publisher of Burn Magazine), Anne Bourgeois-Vignon (Magnum’s Digital Director) and Rory Blain, (Director of Sedition, innovative platform for digital art) will discuss the most relevant issues of photography today in the online environment such as the online space as a home for photography, hints for growing the online audience and much more.
The talk is taking place on Friday, March 24, at 7 pm at Barbican, Frobisher Auditorium 1.

DEUTSCHE BÖRSE PHOTOGRAPHY FOUNDATION PRIZE 2017

Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is an annual exhibition, at which the most promising photographers share their innovative photographic practice and unusual viewpoints. With an award of £30,000, it is open to any photographer and celebrates innovative and original photographic practice from across the world. This year, Prize marks 20-year anniversary and will bring together works of the following artists: Sophie Calle, Dana Lixenberg, Awoiska van der Molen, and Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs.
The exhibition will be shown until 11 June at the Photographers Gallery, 16 - 18 Ramillies St, London W1F 7LW.

Bouchra Khalili

Moroccan-French artist Bouchra Khalili is holding his first major solo exhibition at Lisson Gallery in the UK. Khalili’s recent exhibition explores the pressing issues of our times: migration and displacement. Through the mediums of film, video, installation, photography and prints he explores with the viewer the socially constructed nature of borders and challenges our fixed ideas of identity and nationhood.
