Opening Of The Week
CAMA Gallery opening
CAMA Gallery, one of Tehran’s leading private contemporary art institutions, opens its second outpost in London with an inaugural exhibition of 19 artists. Titled, “Sensation,” the show is dedicated to contemporary luminaries from Iran, and will consist of works that are vastly diverse in theme and style, ranging from hyper-realistic painting to calligraphy. Notable artists include Bita Vakili, one of the Middle East’s most sought after young female artists, as well as renowned sculptor Maryam Salour. Founded by Mona Kosheghbal, CAMA is London’s only gallery that exclusively showcases Iranian art.
A welcome reception will be held on April 5, from 6-10 p.m., at CAMA Gallery, 19 Dacre Street, London, SW1H0DJ
In Focus
“Art Girl Rising”
For centuries, women in the arts have faced challenges due to gender biases. Let’s stand up for women artists together. “Art Girl Rising” was inspired by the #5WomenArtists campaign launched three years ago by the National Museum of Women in the Arts. “Female artists remain underrepresented in exhibitions across the globe, constituting just 3-5 percent of major permanent collections in the U.S. and Europe. We hope that this moment of shock will inspire people to share the #5WomenArtists challenge and start questioning why the disparity exists and persists” - (NMWA)
Hopefully these black and white t-shirts will help raise awareness and keep the conversation going by a public display on your chest :) £5 from every sale goes to a charity empowering women.

Artist's Talk: Kerry James Marshall
A new London-themed painting by Kerry James Marshall is displayed at Tate Britain, and this talk is a unique chance to hear the artist discuss his career, in conversation with Mark Godfrey, the Tate’s senior curator of international art. The artist is renowned for his explorations of black culture. Marshall has frequently engaged with questions of race and representation, often countering stereotypes in his portraits of black life.
This talk takes place on Wednesday, May 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Tate Modern, Bankside, London, SE1 9TG
Hymn For The Weekend
“Somewhere in Between”
Art, science and somewhere in between. Artists Martina Amati, Daria Martin, Maria McKinney and John Walter collaborate with scientists to explore ideas that are vital to human life – ideas about our sources of food, our senses, our sexual health and the limitations of our bodies. Experience these four immersive installations, shown together for the first time, which reveal the hidden connections and systems that lie between and beneath us.
The installation will be on view until August 27 at Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE
Last Chance To See
Tanya Ling
For her first solo show at the Mayor Gallery, Indian-born British artist Tanya Ling has made a group of new Line Paintings that add to her series started in 2014 and which were first shown at Alex Eagle’s old space in South Kensington. The works were exclusively made in the gallery over the weekend before the show opened; sheets of paper hung while Ling with a paint kettle in one hand and paint brush in the other got to work. Each of the approximately 20 works share a single colour, which for this season is Dr. Ph. Martin's ‘Cadmium Red’ - a red with an evocative 1970s orange hue.
The exhibition is on view until April 6, at the Mayor Gallery, 21 Cork Street, London W1S 3LZ
